The Tobacco Alliance is a coalition of 16,500 independent retailers, all of whom sell tobacco products. For 24 years we have represented the rights of legitimate retailers to sell tobacco products in a legal and responsible way.

Through our campaign, Retailers Against Smuggling, we have worked towards reducing the prevalence of smuggled and counterfeit tobacco products. We seek to encourage the Government to bring UK tobacco tax levels more into line with the rest of the EU. This would remove the incentive to smuggle, help restore law and order in communities and safeguard the livelihoods of legitimate retailers.

This year we launched Responsible Retailers, a new campaign to encourage and promote responsibility in the independent retailing sector. We aim to reduce youth access to tobacco by promoting schemes such as ‘No ID No Sale,’ and encouraging young people to carry proof-of-age when buying age restricted goods.

Responsible Retailers promotes the positive work undertaken by retailers who are committed to combating underage sales as well as supporting their efforts to do more. We also wish to highlight how tobacco control legislation may adversely affect small businesses.
